Jakarta Proposes Ojek as Public Transportation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Agency chief Andri Yansyah on Thursday, September 17, recommended ojek (motorcycle taxi), either mobile application-based or otherwise, to become public transportation. Ojek has not been accommodated in Law No. 22/2009.
Andri said conventional or app-based ojek basically violates the law because public transportation category is vehicles with more than two wheels. However, the need for transportation that can break through the traffic in Jakarta is very high, which is why Andri proposed executives, legislatives and the society to work together to make regulation that benefits all.
According to Andri, ojek can obtain operating license by revising the law to classify ojek as personal transport services. For app-based ojek, Andri said when they become official, there must be no more Gojek, Grabbike, or Blu-jek that hang around. “They are already online. No need to hang around,” he said.
Andri hoped all parties can propose a draft revision so that a favorable deal can be made.
