TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Haze originated from forest fire has forced flights heading to and departing from Batam, Riau Island, to be cancelled. Twenty flights scheduled to arrive at the Hang Nadim Batam International Airport and 18 flights scheduled to depart were cancelled.

"Several [airlines] have confirmed on [Monday, September 14, 2015] to temporarily stop flights, especially to Jambi, Pekanbaru, Medan, and Padang. Other airlines are yet to confirm but were forced to cancel some flights considering the hazardous condition of the airport’s [airspace]," said Suwarso, Head of Public Division at the Hang Nadim Batam International Airport on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

Suwarso said several airlines continue to monitor any developments related to the haze condition. Meanwhile on Monday, September 14, 2015, several airlines including Citilink, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air have confirmed that flights from Batam to Jambi, Pekanbaru, and Medan will be suspended for a week as a result of the thick haze.
