TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong announced deregulation in the export and import sector, Friday, September 11.

According to the Minister, the deregulation policy package was expected to create efficiency in supply chain to address scarcity of goods in a number of areas, to reduce disparity of goods price, to reduce inflation as well as to provide more job opportunities.

“The deregulation package and the de-bureaucratization cover export and imports. The aim is improve competitiveness in the industry sector that include provision of raw materials for imports for industries as well as to smoothen flow of goods,” said Trade Minister Thomas Lembong in his press release at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta on Friday.

In addition, Thomas said that this policy package was also expected to open bigger business opportunities. So far, regulations and bureaucracy have become a major obstacle in the y trade sector that serve to meet the needs of industries, consumption, and exports.

For export sector alone, there are 53 regulations that cover 2,278 kinds of goods, while for import sector, there are 79 regulations that regulate 11,534 kinds of goods, thus the deregulation and de-bureaucracy would contribute to bring efficiency in trade.
