TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The smog coming from the forest fires in Sumatera is disrupting the distribution of logistics from the Island to and from Central Java.
"Right now there are a lot of packages addressed to Palembang and Riau that we cannot ship," Tony Winarno chairman of the Indonesian Post and Logistics Express Shipment Services (Asperindo) of Central Java said on Friday, September 11.
"There are plenty of items stuck in Jakarta because most flights [to Sumatera] are delayed," he said.
Tony could not say just how much loss has been caused by the situation, but he admitted that the delayed deliveries have reaped protests from industries that rely on courier services.
One of Indonesia's most active shipping companies, JNE, admitted that the fire haze has hindered its work. Through its official website, JNE said that for the time being they cannot deliver YES packages, SS packages, perishable food, living plants and fruits to and from several areas in Sumatera.
