390 Hot Spots Detected in Sumatra: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the Terra and Aqua satellites had detected at least 390 hotspots in Sumatra.
"The hotspots were detected at 7 am,” said Pekanbaru BMKG Chief Sugarin on Saturday, September 5.
According to Sugarin, South Sumatra remains a province with the most hot spots in with 224 hotspots, followed by Riau (154 hot spots), Jambi (92 hot spots), Lampung (25 hot spots), Bangka Belitung (13 hot spots), North Sumatra (9 hot spots), West Sumatra (5 hot spots), Bengkulu (5 hot spots), and Riau Islands (3 hot spots).
In the meantime, in Riau alone, 154 hot spots in the province were scattered in eight regencies, namely Indragiri Hulu (8 hot spots), Pelalawan (3 hot spots), Kampar (1 hot spot), Kuantan Singingi (1 hot spot), and Indragiri Hilir (1 hot spot).
Sugarin further said that haze from those hot spots has also disrupted visibility in several areas, including in Riau’s capital Pekanbaru, where visibility has dropped to 400 meter.
