TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) joined hands to combat gratification. The two agencies established three anti-gratification reporting systems: the Anti-Fraud Unit, Gratification Control, and the Whistle Blowing System (WBS).

"Anyone can anonymously report suspected violations by OJK staff. So you are safe," said OJK member and chief of audit board Ilya Avianti said on Monday, August 30.

Ilya said the OJK had received 30 reports of violations since the programs started in 2015. However, none of those reports mentioned practices of corruption of gratification by OJK members. Therefore, Ilya concluded that the regulator is free from gratification.

"The reports are mostly complaints on our facilities or services," he said.

KPK deputy Zulkarnaen had said that the antigraft body's survey found that around 30 percent of Indonesians do not understand the concept of gratification.

"They do not know that gratuity is a crime," he said some time ago.

This lack of understanding, he said, is because there are plenty of ways to cover up the practice, which can be categorized as bribery.

"For example, gifting someone because of their positions, rewarding someone with work trips, and much more," said Zulkarnaen.

He said there are also disguised forms of gratification such as the provision of stocks, giving a company a specific job or project, or giving a fee to help a company win a project bid. The variety of practices, Zulkarnaen said, is very likely to happen in the government level.

"That's why we need preventive measures."
