TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bambang Suryo, a former footballer, claimed that he began organizing bets in 1988. He added that his role was as a mere middleman, not the dealer, reports said Thursday, July 30, 2015.
"I was into nightlife, hanging out with a number of people,” he told Tempo in a number of occasions. “Through them I learnt, losing can be compromised as long as we earn fortune.”
He said that the dealers are mostly Malaysians, being an extension to Chinese bet kingpins. "I played as a middleman for these dealers. I was tasked to liase them with some people and the league team," Bambang said.
Moreover, Bambang claimed that the dealers spent Rp 200-500 million to set up a match. From a setup match, Bambang earned Rp 35-50 million.
Bambang, however, did not pull the stint on his own. "I have men called runner, tasked to make sure that the match go on according to scenario," he said. “A runner could earn Rp 2-5 million per setup match.”
