Bukittinggi Mayor Apologizes over Excessive Parking Rates

TEMPO.CO, Bukittinggi - Bukittinggi Mayor, Ismet Amzis, apologized to tourists as some parking officers have overcharged them. Ismet said that (illegal) parking officers have charged tourist up to Rp20,000 per vehicle.


Previously, tourists have been infuriated by incidents that force them to pay an excessive parking tariff. Even worse, some of the parking officers asked for money in a rude and forceful manner.


He then claimed that the city administration has detained ten suspects following such report.


Ismet later explained that regional regulation No. 4/2011, official parking tariff is at Rp1,000 (motorbike), Rp2,000 (car), and Rp5,000 (bus and truck).


“They will be charged for such violation," said Ismet on the illegal parking officers. He added that the suspects face a maximum 3-year imprisonment and Rp5 million fine.
