TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wianda Pusponegoro, Pertamina vice president of corporate communication said on Sunday, June 28, 2015, that Pertamina has used its own ship to transport crude oil from Malaysia to Pertamina’s refinery.

The ship, called MT Gamalama, is a long range type weighing above 80,000 metric. On June 2, 2015, the ship transported 576,336 barrels of crude oil from Kidurong terminal and another 600,141 barrels from Kikeh Terminal on June 20, 2015.

Earlier, another Pertamina’s ship MT Gunung Geulis transported 574,812 barrels of crude oil from Kikeh Terminal on June 1, 2015. The ship travelled for 12 days before discharging its load at special port of refinery in Cilacap.

“The crude transportations were our commitment to maintain supplies and national energy resilience,” Wianda said.

In the first quarter of 2015, Pertamina could save US$22 million by using its own ship to transport oil. Therefore, the potential to increase the efficiency of its own fleet in 2015 could be significant since Pertamina’s fleet consists of 64 owned ships and 136 rented ships.

To boost the efficiency, Pertamina has planned to add 26 ships that would increase the ownership to 90. Pertamina would also optimize its own fleet to transport fuel and crude oil amid the decreasing oil price.
