Indonesian senior actor Eros Djarot.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Senior actor Eros Djarot said Indonesian film has "drowned" in uniformity, either from the story line, figures, or theme. Therefore he encourage film makers to think out of the box to produce extraordinary films that will promote Indonesian film industry.

By ‘out of the box’, Djarot meant that film makers should produce movies which have anti-mainstream theme, story and ideas.

“If we look at the fact, prominent films such as The Raid was born out of anti-mainstream and out-of-the-box idea,” Eros said.

He also set the film entitled ‘Tjoet Nja’ Dhien’ that he produced in 1988 as an example. The film had used Dolby stereo technology when it was not common to be used in its era.

Eros however, also believes that the development of Indonesian films is very dependent on the government’s role. Eros considers that the government has only been putting one eye on this creative industry.

“It is unfortunate that the country has yet to see this. They’re still busy with political issues on the parliament,” said the 64-year-old actor.
