Jokowi Calls for Cessation of Raw Mineral Exports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has asked all stakeholders in the business sector to refrain from exporting raw materials, particularly minerals.

“I hope that in the future, there will be no more raw materials exports,” Jokowi said on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Indonesia Investment Week event in Jakarta.

Jokowi also asked all regional heads to draft bills on export standardization.

“There must be standardization in the industry that requires exports of goods in process” Jokowi said.

According to Jokowi, the standardization must be drafted to open new employments in each region. It means, Jokowi added, raw mineral must be processed domestically for exports, which in turn will create new employments.
