TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tiur Rumondang, the executive director of the Indonesia Business Council of Sustainable Development, said deforestation in Indonesia is difficult to monitor due to the unavailability of fixed reference that regulates forest conservation.
“As a result, the supervision on deforestation cannot be carried out since it’s not clear which areas are included in protected forests,” Tiur told Bisnis on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Tiur said running a land-based business is related to regulations that cover the land purpose and the allocation of the land, in contrast with service-based business that emphasizes the sustainability on financial statement and administrative permits.
Other land-based business, such as palm oil, paper, mining and extraction, would need a legal certainty related to the land purpose.
“This is priority homework for the government. Otherwise, issues related to land-based business will be a never-ending task to solve,” Tiur said.
