TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Kalimantan regional police have once again arrested six suspects for burning forests. They are residents in Pulang Pisau, Kapuas, and Katingan, who were caught burning their land. “They were caught red handed,” said the police chief Brigjen Bambang Hermanu at the regional police headquarters, Saturday, September 27.
This month, the police have arrested 24 people who burned forests and land. They were nabbed in the 2014 Bara Talabang Operation that was implemented from September 12 until 21 this year.
Bambang has ordered district police to monitor owners of palm oil plantations in their areas, whether they burn their land or not. “Our status has increased, from alert to emergency response,” he explained.
He said he has dispatched 490 police officers from all districts and 500 personnel from the Central Kalimantan police to assist in extinguishing forest fires. “They have spread to Katingan, Kapuas, and Pulang Pisau districts.”
