TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Association of Salt User Industries and salt farmers represented by the Indonesian Association of Salt Famers (APGRI), has signed an agreement containing the purchase of 170,000 tons of salt from salt farmers in Madura.
The signing of the agreement was done before Industry Minister Saleh Husin during his working visit to Madura.
Faisol Baidowi, APGRI Secretary on Saturday said that private salt companies involved include PT Sumatraco Lenggeng Makmur, PT Susanti Megah, PT Garindo Sejahtera Abadi, PT Chetam Garam Indonesia, PT Saltindo and PT Unichem Candi Indonesia.
Faisol added that the purchase is based on the needs of the respective companies. However, he said that the agreement would expire until Augustus 2015; thus, he added, that it now depends on the farmers to meet the target within the period.
"If after the deadline the farmers cannot meet the demand, companies will no longer buy their salt,” he added.
