TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) conducted a trial at South Jakarta District Court for residents who were caught littering in public places.

The trial was the follow up of the raids conducted between 23 to 26 February 2015 to the residents who were caught littering.

Sugiarso, South Jakarta Satpol PP official, said that at least 61 people attended the trial.

"20 people were caught littering and 41 street hawkers were caught,” he said on Friday, 27 February 2015.

Residents who were caught littering, Sugiraso said, were fined to Rp150,000 in accordance with the Jakarta regional bylaw number 3 of 2013 on cleanliness. In the meantime, street hawkers were fined to Rp100,000, in accordance with the regional bylaw number 8 of 2007 on public order.

From this trial, Sugiarso added, the fines collected amounted to Rp4.4 million.

"If they repeat the actions, they will be given a maximal sanction or even imprisonment,” he added.

In the meantime, Sawirman Sidi, one of the residents who was fined said that he had to pay the fine of Rp150,000.

"I regret it and will not repeat it again,” he said.

Sulistarto, Head of South Jakarta Satpol PP said that the aim of the raid and the trial was to give deterrent effects to the residents.
