TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heads of District and Subdistrict in Jakarta have agreed to ask for higher salary because they claimed to have to work more than eight hours a day. Head of Kebayoran Baru District, Eddy Suherman, told deputy governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat about the matter. "[We demand a raise] because we work over time," Eddy said.

Djarot, on the other hand, said that the Jakarta administration cannot fulfill the demand. Instead, Djarot urged officials need improve their performance before demanding a raise.

Djarot added that he has seen a number of civil servants at leave their office at the exact time after office hour was over without providing their best performance. "In fact, I have seen some [civil servants] visit malls during office hour," he said.

Therefore, he insisted that Jakarta civil servants must improve their performance before demanding for more salary. Moreover, Djarot added that heads of subdistrict and heads of districts have received more than enough salary by earning Rp 33 million and 48 million per month, respectively.
