TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry said that it will approve Freeport Indonesia’s export permits as the company has met all requirements set by the government. The memorandum of understanding on the export permits and contract renegotiation will be extended for another six months.
After several meetings that last for two days, the government and Freeport had finally agreed on additional clauses in the MoU, as it expired on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
“The previous MoU will still be valid and made as a reference. But there will be additional focuses for the new MoU,” ESDM Ministry’s Mineral and Coal director general R. Sukhyar said on Friday, January 23, 2015.
According to Sukhyar, Freeport has met all requirements set by the government in order to continue its exports. Freeport has agreed to lease Petrokrimia Gresik’s land with a total size of 80 hectares in Gresik, East Java, to build a smelter.
Earlier on Thursday, January 22, 2015, Freeport McMoran owner James R. Moffet visited the ESDM Ministry to report the smelter development plan. Mr. Moffet said that Freeport had signed an MoU on land leasing with Petrokimia Gresik.
