TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 338 natural disasters have occurred in the district of Tasikmalaya, West Java, since January to November 2014. Around 56 percent of the total are caused by landslides.

Landslides are prone to occur in Tasikmalaya for its hilly area. The government urged village leaders to stay cautious in order avoid casualties during landslides.
“For residents living on hills or areas prone to landslides are to stay aware, especially when a three hour rain occur. Residents located in prone areas are to avoid from the environment,” Kundang said.
An example of a good experience in an anticipation to reduce casualties, Kundang said, is during Parungponteng District’s landslide that happened four months ago. During the landslide, residents have already been evacuated.
Meanwhile, the total damaged caused by Tasikmalaya’s landslide is over Rp25.5 billion. The amount is bigger than its last disaster that occured in 2013.
