Bogor Rejects Lower Work-Hour for Women
Selasa, 9 Desember 2014 12:58 WIB
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Bogor City administration refused Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s plan to cut work hours for female civil servants, since it may lower productivity and performance.
“It’s an era of women’s emancipation. There is no need to cut work hours,” said Bogor Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman.
Usmar added that civil servants have already had two holidays on the weekend. Despite the plan has yet been in effect, Usmar expressed his disagreement since the decision would conflict the regional autonomy policy.
Euis Rochyati, head of Bogor Employment, Education and Training Agency (BKPP) said the work-hour cut may indeed lower productivity. However, lower working hours for mothers who raise children would give them more time to care and educate their children.
“The BKPP would implement the policy if it was approved. But it would need evaluation,” Euis said.
