TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Henk Saroinsong, a staff of the Indonesian Consulate General in the United States, said Indonesia has the opportunity to market halal products in Houston. According to Henk, the number of Muslims in Houston is considerably large.

“The economy is lucrative and the marketing climate [in Houston] is good,” Henk said in a written comment.

In a forum called “100 Percent Indonesia, 100 Percent Halal,” held on Friday, November 14, 2014 Henk said Indonesian products had a huge market potential in Houston, as about 1.2 percent of 6.8 million citizens are Muslims.

Henk said Houston is importing most of halal products from Mexico, Vietnam and China. Henk added that as the fourth largest city in the United States, Houston would be the perfect gateway for Indonesian halal products.

The business forum involved five Indonesian food and beverage distributors, namely Indofood, Wira Corporation, Roa Judes, M2B Imports (Coffee Goodday) and Andri’s Kitchen. The five companies met local business owners, including local supermarket chains, such as Vienthoa, Suns Club and Atlas.
