TEMPO.CO, Malang – The Malang Corruption Watch (MCW) has filed reports with the Corruption Eradication Commission on alleged graft in Malang regency, Malang municipality and Kota Baru regency.

MCW deputy coordinator Hayyik Ali Muntaha said the graft cases had persisted for two years and cost the state Rp163 billion.

“The MCW requests that the Corruption Eradication Commission make Malang an operation target in its corruption eradication agenda,” Hayyik said on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

According to Hayyik, corruption cases in Malang regency involved multiple projects, among them market developments, drinking water installations, official travels of local councilors, permits for natural resources exploitation, mining, grants, and insurance for the local representatives council.

In Malang municipality, meanwhile, corruption was suspected to take place in the construction of Kedungkandang project, drainage projects, vehicle inspections (KIR) and taxes. In Batu regency, corruption purportedly included tax embezzlement, local councilors’ official trips, and permits for hotel construction.

Hayyik said some of the cases have been reported to local prosecutors and police, investigation into those cases had yet to show significant progress—particularly in the ones involving regional administrators.

“If these cases are overlooked, corruption will flourish, he said, adding that the MCW had prepared the necessary data for future investigations into the cases.

Separately, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the data would assist KPK investigators in probing the cases and the agency would protect informers in graft cases against violent threats.
