TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned telecommunications operator PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, also known as Telkom, is set to tap into the New Zealand market. Telkom president director Arief Yahya said the move is in line with the company's target to finalize the acquisition of Contact Centres Australia (CCA).

Completing the acquisition of CCA will facilitate Telkom in owning a 27-percent stake in a New Zealand telecommunications operator, Spark New Zealand.

"With the existing footprint in Australia, our bargaining position becomes stronger," Arief said in Jakarta last weekend.

Telecom New Zealand is the country's largest provider of telecommunications services and information technology that was fully privatized in 1990. Some of its majority stakeholders are National Nominees New Zealand Limited (16.9 percent), JP Morgan Chase Bank NA (12.4 percent), and HSBC Nominees (New Zealand) Limited A/C State Street (12 percent).
