TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In addition to improving the 'Like' and 'Share' buttons, Facebook will apparently add a new feature called the 'Star Rating'. From a screenshot displayed at TechCrunch website on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 'Star Rating' will appear on the top of the page. The 'Star Rating' will be displayed on group and business pages, location, or certain accounts.
"We're expanding star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop – to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them. This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers," Facebook spokesperson said.
Before launching the feature, Facebook conducted several tests on group pages. The company gathered data for 'Star Rating' based on users' comments from desktop and by using an application available on the Timeline.
According to Facebook, the 'Like' button is fraught with ambiguity as it can be used to express sympathy, solidarity, endorsement, a sign of interest, or even in some cases, a symbol of dislike. With the new 'Star Rating', Facebook hoped that it will be easier for users to assess and get information from a page.
