TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Indonesia airline feared that the delays that are caused by haze rising from Sumatera and Kalimantan would trigger a domino effect.
"Flight delays due to the haze will cause delay to the next flight, like domino effect," said Garuda Indonesia spokesperson Pujobroto on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.
According to Pujobroto, the haze will disrupt flight operations. Airplanes must also carry extra fuel in order to land at another airport or return to its original point of departure. "This causes inefficiency," he said.
Garuda must also deal with passengers' complaints because the delays have affected flight punctuality.
Haze covered the sky of Central Kalimantan yesterday. Based on National Oceanic Atmospheric and Administration's (NOAA) observation, the number of hotspots in Central Kalimantan has reached up to 227 areas. Regions with the highest number of hotspots recorded include East Kotawaringin Regency (41 hotspots), Katingan (37 hotspots), Pulang Pisau (36 hotspots), Kapus (31 hotspots) and Seruyan (14 hotspots).
