TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government inaugurated the pilot project to use palm oil mill effluent (POME) for electricity generation in the village of Rantau Sakti in Riau Province. The pilot project has an installed capacity of 1MW, supplying power to 1,050 households in the village.
"This project was built in 2013 using state funds from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with a contract value of Rp28 billion," Rida Mulyana, the Energy Ministry's director general of new renewable energy and energy conservation, said in a written statement Tuesday, September 16.
Riau is known as the largest energy-producing province in Indonesia, with energy potentials from petroleum, natural gas, and oil palm. Entering 2014, the province has an electrification ratio of 77.56 percent.
