TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several things can be a source of inspiration for designers in creating clothings, including the artworks of a local society. Alumni of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) proved this.

Using paintings by local original Australian residents, the Aborigins, as part of the design, several contemporary clothings are created.

They call their collection designs AKIN. Kay McMahon, a lecturer of QUT fashion school, said AKIN collection uses silk. The characteristics of Aborigin is so obvious in the motif that is generally dominated by dots.

"The motif has Aboriginal characteristics. One of their works is created for one clothe. The works are ready to be marketed in Australia," McMahon said yesterday in Jakarta.

These clothings consist of minis and long dresses, tops and bottoms of pants and skirts, wrapped in a color dominated by blue. McMahon said for creating this work, his students had to visit art exhibitions in Queensland.

The fashion show that uses Aboriginal paintings characteristics for the first time as one of the clothings design is a part of the 2014 Australian Embassy Art and Culture program.

"We are proud to display AKIN collections that is newly recorded in the colaboration design, ethnical contract and manufactur collection that is ready to be for sale in the international market and we will share the skills," McMahon said.
