TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Transport Ministry is preparing to have 14 ports designed specifically to transport coals. Bobby R. Mamahit, the Ministry's director general of Sea Transportation, said this would be a joint-program with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"Only these ports are allowed to collect coals. This is done so it will be easier to control," Bobby said at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta, Monday, September 1.

According to Bobby, the government will prohibit any activity of coal transports for export purposes outside of these ports. However, the concept of these special ports remains as the domain of the Energy Ministry. "It is sort of like a consolidation port," said Bobby.

The 14 ports, said Bobby, will be located sporadically in areas in in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Ternate. The locations will be adjacent to coal mines.
