Redenomination Draft Bill Talks to Continue
Selasa, 19 Agustus 2014 17:00 WIB
TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo, said that BI will hold another discussion on rupiah redenomination.
"God's willing, we will start discussing the draft bill on currency redenomination in the House of Representatives [DPR] meeting this month," said Agus on Monday, August 18, 2014.
The redenomination will be discussed thoroughly by the government and the DPR. Agus underlined that the redenomination will not reduce the currency's value.
If the redenomination draft bill is approved by the DPR, there will be at least two implications. First, there will be a transition period that could last for a minimum of six years.
Second, the price of goods and services will also be redenominated. However, Agus insisted that no value of the rupiah will be lost.
