TEMPO.CO, Nairobi - Fears of Ebola have spread to West African countries, causing Kenya to close its borders with Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone last Wednesday.
BBC reported on Monday, August 18, 2014, that Kenyan Health Minister James Macharia, said exceptions will only be given to Kenyans and medical officers flying from Ebola infected countries.
Furthermore, Kenyan Airways will stop flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone when the ban applies although risks of Ebola transmission during flights are quite low.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that Kenya is at "high risk" from Ebola because of its role as a major transport hub.
Last Friday, the number of fatalities caused by Ebola has increased to 1,145 since WHO reported 76 deaths in two days on August 13, 2014. There have been 2,127 cases reported in total.
