TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia has managed to lower its debt ratio to 23 percent of GDP. His claim was delivered in his final state address as president of Indonesia before the DPR and DPD Assembly in Jakarta, Friday, August 15.

"Debt is an important factor as it relates to a nation's self-confidence and self-esteem," said Yudhoyono

Yudhoyono compared Indonesia's debt-to-GDP ratio to some developed countries' such as Japan (227.2 percent), the United States (101.5 percent), and Germany (78.4 percent).

"Indonesia's debt-to-GDP ratio is the lowest among G-20 countries," he said.

Indonesia has also paid off its entire debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), doing so four years earlier than scheduled.
