TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned today three lawmakers of the House of Representatives’ Commission VII overseeing religious affairs. The three are Said Abdullah from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Ratu Siti Romlah from the Democrat Party, and Hasrul Azwar from the United Development Party (PPP).
“They are summoned as witnesses,” the KPK’s information and communication chief Priharsa Nugraha said on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.
Priharsa said the three lawmakers were quizzed by KPK investigators on the graft-tainted hajj case implicating former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali. Of the three witnesses, Hasrul has been the one most frequently summoned by the KPK.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the investigation into the case was focusing on several issues, among them the procurement of goods and services in the 2012-2013 hajj pilgrimage.
The KPK named Suryadharma Ali as a suspect in the graft case on May 2014. The Religious Affairs Ministry organized the 2012-2013 hajj pilgrimage under a budget of Rp1 trillion.
