Govt to Build Bengkulu-South Sumatra Toll Road

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central government has given Rp14.4 trillion to the Bengkulu provincial government to builf a toll road that connects Bengkulu Province with South Sumatera as part of the Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI).


“The funds will be allocated for 14 big projects such as Bengkulu-South Sumatra toll road, sea port construction and university development,” said Bengkulu Governor Junaidi Hamsyah on Saturday.


Junaidi said the toll road is one of Bengkulu government’s strategic programs and vital for both provinces to facilitate flow of goods and services to Bengkulu Baai Island port.


The funds will also be used to develop Baai Island port and for handling of 124- km Bengkulu-Kepahiang-Curup-Lubu Linggau (South Sumatra border) road, 311.49-km Bengkulu-Mukomuko (West Sumatra border) road and 239.51-km Bengkulu-Kaur (Lampung border) road.


Other things that the funds will be spent on is community academy construction at Mukomuko Regency which costs Rp12.02 billion and Rejang Lebong Regency Rp13.38 billion and development of Bengkulu University’s infrastructure and facilities Rp86.60 billion.
