TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Chairman Said Aqil Siradj has stated that the rising profile of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) movement in Indonesia showed that it was easy for new teachings and movements to enter the country.
"Indonesia is experiencing a period of freedom and openness; thus everything can enter the country easily," Said uttered at PBNU office in Kramat Raya, Jakarta yesterday.
He added that those new teachings and movements will surely attract interests and new followers.
"There will always be followers of those new religions, new prophets or new teachings. Indonesia is quite an open market," he said.
According to Said, this phenomenon may put the stability of the country at stake.
Therefore, it is important for the government to enhance security measures and take a firm action against fundamental groups that can pose risks to the stability of the country.
PBNU, on the other hand, has ways to ward off new dangerous thoughts or teachings, especially among the youths.
"We always take measures to prevent the young generation of NU from joining such groups. We always try to curb radicalisms. For terrorism, it is the authority who must fight them," Said added.
