TEMPO.CO , Yogyakarta - Gembira Loka Zoo in Yogyakarta is planning on building aquarium for the hippos so that visitors can see the plump animals swimming.
"To date, visitors can only see the back of the hippos. They can’t see the animals swimming," said Gembira Loka Zoo Director Joko Tirtono, Wednesday.
The aquarium is inspired by the aquariums for Jackass Penguins from Africa. The keeper holds attractions by throwing capelin fish to the penguins and they would catch it.
The aquarium cage will make the animals more comfortable and the visitors will be able to see the animals’ activities without having to disturb the animal, said Joko.
The high number of visitors of up to 20,000 person per day during the Eid holliday has forced Joko to limit the animal attraction duration.
