TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) tools would be installed in Corridor I and II in June 2014 with trials slated for July.

Ahok said every vehicle would be given a device called on-board unit (OBU), which appeared as a frequency transmitter connected to servers in both corridors.

“We want to conduct the trial on the slow lane to see the amount of signals from every vehicle that can be detected by the frequency from this device,” Ahok said on Wednesday. “We will install this device on all vehicles, including motorcycles and buses to see how it works.”

The device will be installed in front of the car so that it can be detected by the wireless system along Corridor I and II.

The OBU used by the Jakarta administration is a Norwegian-made device under the brand of Kapsch. Ahok said there would be four domestic consortiums carrying out the installment of this device.

Among the consortiums is Alita, a provincially-owned company (BUMD) that also handles the e-ticket system of the Commuter Line. Ahok hoped the trial would proceed without a hitch so that the ERP could be implemented immediately.

“If it has been implemented, these OBU devices will be issued by banks and your account number will be recorded, so when your vehicle passes through ERP, your money will be automatically taken from your bank account,” he said.
