Analyst: Jokowi has to Clarify His Decision for Presidency Run

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political communications expert from Political Literacy Institute, Gun Gun Heryanto, said Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has to explain about his decision to run for president to both who are in favor and against the decision. "Jokowi has to speak in public," Gun Gun told Tempo on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
Gun Gun said there will be protest waves against Jokowi's decision. But he asked Jokowi not to respond and be reactive to every criticism against his decision. "Jokowi has to explain why he wants to be a president," Gun Gun added.
According to Gun Gun, two things that Jokowi needs to be clarify are: an allegation saying that Jokowi is power hungry and his responsibilities as the Jakarta Governor.
Gun Gun also suggested that Jokowi should be selective in responding to political attacks from his rivals. Jokowi, Gun Gun said, should remain calm and not be defensive. "He doesn't have to respond them all. In relation to Batu Tulis and an allegation saying that he was just Megawati's subordinate, his party should answer those."
"If Jokowi reacts negatively, it may backfire and cause him bad reputation," he said.
