TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Budiman Sudjatmiko, politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said social media, especially Twitter, is a 'political blessing' since "Twitter is like a political stage,” he said.
"If Twitter is well-managed, it could create a Wow Effect," said Budiman, Saturday.
Twitter could serve as a media to seek supports for the ideas that a politician comes up with and that through Twitter, the public would get to know those ideas, he said.
Politicians should be worried if their areas are not be widely known by the public; thus, in his belief, Twitter could be a good media to impart ideas.
New statistics show Twitter use is indeed growing in popularity internationally, with Indonesia now home to the sixth largest number of users worldwide.
According to social media analytics company Sysomos, Indonesians make up 2.41 percent of all users of the service. The United States is still in top spot, accounting for 50.9 percent of users, followed by Brazil, the UK, Canada and Germany.
The rank shows a significant increase in Indonesian users.
