TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II prepares Rp200 billion to develop Silangit Airport at Siborong-borong, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, as a tourism airport.
According to Angkasa Pura II managing director Tri S. Sunoko, Silangit Airport is the main gateway to tourist area in North Sumatra, such as Lake Toba.
"This airport can also be used as a mean of transportation for business especially in agriculture and livestock sectors," he said yesterday.
Tri explained that fund is prepared for the first phase is Rp192 billion, which will be used for land acquisition and runway expansion. And then, Angkasa Pura II will build passenger terminals with estimated budget of Rp8 billion.
After that, the airport will be open commercially, tourists will only have to spend 1.5 hours to go to Lake Toba. The time is half of the usual trip through Kualanamu Airport via a small airplane.
North Tapanuli Regent, Tora Lumban Tobing, said that the Silangit Airport will attract foreign and domestic tourists. After this airport begins operation, flight frequency will be added from three times a week to every day. "We will also invite other regions to make tourism package," he said.
