Govt' to Redesign Cisadane Channel Project

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works stated that it would create another design of the Ciliwung-Cisadane channel project. The consideration was made as a respond to the objection raised by the Tangerang Regency Government and citizens.


"Tangerang regional head's and people's concerns are reasonable. Therefore, we will redesign the Ciliwung-Cisadane channel project to make it better," said Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto on January 22, 2014.


Djoko said that redesigning the project was not an easy task. The Ministry had to find a suitable location. He stated that the central government will directly supervise the project.


In its effort to overcome floods, the Public Works Ministry would start from the downstream. Djoko said that Tangerang citizens should realize that the Cisadane River needs to be normalized.
