Only One Third of Freeport Workers are Papuans

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's largest mining company, Freeport, stated that only a third from a total of 31,000 workers are Papuans. Freeport CEO Rozik B. Soetjipto mentioned to have delivered the situation to the Presidential Counsel Board (Wantimpres) a while ago.

Emil Salim from Wantimpres said the situation is a crime, saying that all workers should be from Papua. On the other hand, Rozik said Freeport has already explained the required worker competence.

Freeport has also performed a recruitment that prioritizes the locals (Papuans). The company even plans to make a five-year "roadmap" to reach 45 percent of Papuan workers.
