TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Researchers from Princeton University USA has forecasted that Facebook will lose its 80 percent users. The prediction was based on a research of social media describing it as a spreading infection or a disease before dying out in a short time.

The research model can be used to study the society’s adoption of a social media. The researchers said, the number of Facebook users will drop significantly in between 2015 and 2017. The number drop would occur following the declining interest in Facebook’s content.

"Ideas, like diseases, have been shown to spread infectiously between people before eventually dying out," a researcher noted as quoted from TIME, yesterday. Such hypothesis was successfully proven in an epidemiological study.

The Facebook decline has been previously predicted. It has to fight hard against its competitors, such as Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Google+. Facebook is considered to feature outdated and boring contents.

One of its major competitors is Instagram which currently has the fastest growth. Global Web Index mentioned the rate of its growth is 23 percent in 32 countries. However, in terms of users penetration, Facebook is still leading.
