TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The concrete filling infrastructure project in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, began reaping victims. The 100-meter road project below Velbak fly-over made the road 15-centimeter higher from the old asphalt, only without connecting pad in between.
"The heightened road isn't clearly visible, especially at night and from a distance," said local resident Ali. He said the worst victims being a couple on a motorcycle on Wednesday evening as they got into a single accident.
Syaiful, an ojek (motorbike taxi) driver mentioned there were in total of seven victims on Wednesday evening, some even suffered breaking bones.
Previously, Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama questioned the lengthy infrastructure project, saying that such project can be done overnight. He stated suspicion that the contractor might be playing some hidden scheme.
