TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo said the latest developments on the Hambalang case was one of the reasons why KPK had yet to detain former Sports and Youth Minister Andi Mallarangeng.

KPK chief Abraham Samad pledged to arrest the former minister three weeks ago.

“What the KPK executives said was that KPK investigators had yet to detain AM due to the latest developments during the investigation into the case,” Johan said in a text message to Tempo on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Johan said KPK investigators had yet to summon the suspects as they were still scrutinizing testimonies from witnesses.

On September 4, 2013, KPK chief Abraham Samad signaled he would arrest Andi Mallarangeng, one of the suspects in the graft-ridden Hambalang sports complex project. “By the delivery of the official report (on the calculation of state losses by the Supreme Audit Agency), we will expedite the completion of the Hambalang case, including arresting the suspects,” he said.

Abraham said the arrests of suspects would probably begin in the next few days. He declined to mention any name, but said the arrests would be made in the chronological order of the naming of the suspects. Consequently, Andi topped the KPK’s arrest list. “We have yet to send the writ of summons. That’s easy, we still have three days before the weekend.

The KPK has named four suspects in the Hambalang case. They are PT Adhi Karya former director Teuku Bagus Mohammad Noor, the Sports and Youth Ministry’s deed maker Deddy Kusdinar, former minister Andi Mallarangeng, and former Democratic Party chief Anas Urbaningrum. Andi was named as a suspect in December last year, while Anas in February this year.
