TEMPO.CO, Cianjur - A ship carrying hundreds of illegal immigrants reportedly drowned in the waters of the southern coast of Sindangbarang, Cianjur on Tuesday, July 23. Of the 200 passengers, only 26 have been found alive. One person was killed, while more than one hundred others are still adrift in the middle of the sea.

Tatang Ruhiyat Mulyana, a resident of Sindangbarang, Cianjur, said that rescue efforts are still being carried out by local authorities and locals. There is not much information about what happened.

District Military Commander Captain Yayan Ruhiat said that, based on information he received, the immigrant ship departed from Rancabuaya, Garut.

It is assumed that there was a leak on the boat, causing it to sink in the middle of the ocean. At the moment, Yayan said, survivors have been evacuated to the local village office.
