TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nine Alfred Hitchcock's silent movies are listed as cultural heritage on UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register. The films are considered as depicting the richness of Great Britain's culture and history, taken from medieval manuscripts and turned them into great movies.

"Made in around 1925-1929, his movies are one of greatest achievements in England movie making. This is also a blue print of his works that loaded with Hitchcock's motives and obsessions," wrote the Great Britain National Commission for UNESCO.

The British Film Institute (BFI) spent three years to restore nine of Hitchcock's films. Last year, they screened it in London 2012 Festival.

"We are glad to know that the old movies from one of the world's famous film maker are among the other Great Britain's culture artifacts," said Robin baker, the Head of British Film Institute (BFI) as quoted by BBC.

Among the restored films featured Hitchcock's film debut The Pleasure Garden and The Ring, a boxing-drama. Hitchcock 9 is often referred as the blue print of Hitchcock's famous post-war films. Psycho and Vertigo, was also screened in United States.

Last year, Vertigo sat on the top rank of BFI's Sight and Sound magazine as the best film ever replacing Citizen Kane which is directed by Orson Welles.
