TEMPO.CO, Depok - Thirty Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators searched the Rectors Building of the University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok, Thursday, June 27. UI's head of communications office, Farida Haryoko said that the arrival of the KPK was related to the campus' library construction graft.

"They came at around 11:00. They searched the second and third floors," she told reporters, Thursday, June 27, 2013.

The KPK requested no company in the search. "They asked not to be disturbed," Farida added.

KPK named UI's Deputy Rector for Human Resources, Finance and Administration, Tafsir Nurchamid, as a suspect in the alleged corruption of the library construction on June 13. The KPK found sufficient evidences in the alleged corruption of an IT development and installation within UI's main library worth Rp21 billion.

The case began in March 2012 when a number of UI's academics suspected Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri, the rector at that time, was corrupt. The accusation was based on a follow-up study by the State Audit Board (BPK) for the procurement of goods and services in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

The audit suggested several financial mismanagements, including the construction of the UI Hospital in Depok, the transfer of a piece of land in East Pegangsaan Road and state losses due to poor management of procurement of goods and services.
