TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed his appreciation over the positive response given by other nations regarding the religious tolerance and pluralism in Indonesia. "It is a recognition of everything that we have built, fight for, and prove together so far," said Yudhoyono at the Jakarta International Expo, in Kemayoran, on Sunday, May 26.
Yudhoyono said the foreign acclamation must motivate Indonesia to improve and reflect in the future. The president said that as a nation of pluralism, Indonesia has a variety of ethnic groups, tribes, religions, languages, cultures, and identity. "It is a reality that we must accept as gift from God Almighty."
The president added that history has recorded that Indonesians have lived side by side, in peace, and united for centuries. Yudhoyono believes that pluralism must not create discrimination and egoism.
