TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini proposed for the capital to own city-car transportation for persons with disabilities. This was stated when she received the visit of Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) members at her office in Jakarta Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The idea is in line with the DTKJ Awards that would be held under the theme of 'Integrated Transportation for Jakarta as an Inclusive City' on November 22.

According to Minister Risma, the need for special transportation for disabilities must be met by considering the diversity of disabilities with all their needs. "What must be met is transportation with easy access for the disabled persons, not only for those who are physically disabled, but also for the blinds, and the others,” she said as cited from the Social Affairs Ministry site.

Risma proposed for DTKJ to push related stakeholders for the procurement of a special bus for people with disabilities that serves various routes in Jakarta.

This is also aimed at proving the government's commitment to implementing one of the points in the Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2023–2032, which was agreed upon by non-country members of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in October. It mentions the availability of accessibility for persons with disability, one of them being public transportation.

Meanwhile, the chief of DTKJ Haris Muhammadun said that his side initiated the DTKJ Awards as a barometer for organizing transportation for the disabled. Therefore, this event is hoped to be a driving force in the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities in using transportation, especially in Jakarta.

At least, there will be two activities in the DTKJ Awards. It is the forum for discussion of integrated transportation for Jakarta as an inclusive city and the awards in seven categories for the transportation providers that provide facilities that are friendly for persons with disabilities.
