Rescuers Evacuate 3 Freeport Mine Collapse Victims

TEMPO.CO, Timika - The bodies of three Freeport Indonesia workers trapped under the collapsed Big Gossan mine were evacuated on Sunday, May 19. A total of nine bodies had been evacuated from mine that collapsed on Tuesday, May 14.
The three victims rescued on Sunday were identified as Aris Tikupasang, Viktor Sanger, and Hengki Hendambo. Spokesman for the Papua Police, Comm. I Gde Sumerta Aris Jaya, said the deceased have been laid to rest in the Tembagapura Sport Hall.
As of Sunday night, about a thousand Freeport Indonesia workers were still blockading the road to the underground mine. The company had ceased all mining activities since Wednesday, May 15.
