TEMPO.CO, Savar - A miracle happened in the middle of an evacuation process to rescue the victims of Rana Plaza building that collapsed. Following the death toll that has topped more than a thousand people, the rescue team managed to pull out a woman named Reshma after being trapped under the rubble for 17 days.
She was found alive in the collapsed second floor. "That day, I heard voices of the rescue workers for the past several days. I kept hitting the wreckage with rods just to attract their attention," Sherma told Somoy TV station from her hospital bed. "It’s too bad no one heard me. I was really sad. I never dreamed I'd see the daylight again," she added. Her mother and sister immediately went to the hospital to see her.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called Reshma in the hospital. Reshma was crying and asking Hasina to pray for her. Prime Minister Hasina then flew to the scene to meet Reshma and congratulated the rescue team. "This is a miracle," Hasina said.
Reshma was in a good condition although she was under the rubble for more than two weeks. "I ate dried food for 15 days. The last two days I had nothing but water,” she added.
Reshma told the rescue team that unfortunately no one in her area survived. "We will continue our search until we find a survivor or a dead body," said Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy, Head of the local rescue units.
